Mojitos & Mutts was five really exciting events that brought dog lovers together and raised money and toy donations for animals in need. Held at the waterfront Hotel Maya in Long Beach, Calif., the series started with a benefit for the Long Beach Animal Care Services, and wrapped up this fall when it benefitted spcaLA.
Ending the Mojitos & Mutts events with the spcaLA seems fitting, as the idea to hold the events stemmed from a springtime TweetUp held in the shelter’s honor. The fundraiser and food drive for the spcaLA was so successful that Mojitos & Mutts was launched to support local animal welfare charities.
The one exception was when we decided to support the Louisiana SPCA, which was taking in an increasing number of family pets in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil spill. Many families found themselves suddenly out of work and could no longer support their pets. We decided this was every community’s problem.
Our last event, a “Howl’oween Spooktacular,” was a smashing success. Dogs of every size and shape came out to support the spcaLA. Many of them were dressed in costume, and if there’s anything cuter than a dog in a Halloween costume, please let us know!
We’d like to thank everyone who came out to any or all of the events. Without your attendance and support, Mojitos & Mutts wouldn’t have been a success.
If you have a little spare change this holiday season, we’d love to remind you that the following beneficiaries of Mojitos & Mutts are always in need of donations. These groups do great work on behalf of animals.
Long Beach Animal Care Services
Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA)
Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA)
A very special shout-out goes to Kim Rodgers of Bark Pet Photography, who served as official photographer for several of the events.
We’d also like to thank our sponsors, who donated merchandise for raffles and gift bags. Because of their generosity, we were able to help benefit homeless animals.
Pawsitively Wendy
Thank you! You are heroes in our book.
Until next time…
